Free Peeg Pattern

Peeg Pattern (FINALLY!)

You will need...
Crochet hook (size 3.75 mm/F)
Yarn (acrylic works best)
Felt
Embroidery thread
Needle (yarn and sewing)
Polyester fiberfill
Plastic animal eyes (I use 10 mm)  You can also make felt eyes/embroider the eyes-a good idea if the Peeg is for small children
Ribbons, plastic gems, buttons (optional)
Super glue
Sharp craft scissors
Row marker (you can buy them at craft stores, but you can also use a hinged earring clasp with a little charm on it, a safety pin, or a piece of different colour yarn that you can loop through you last st.)

Gauge is not important for this pattern!  A bigger hook/thicker yarn will result in a bigger Peeg, and skinnier yarn/hook will result in a smaller Peeg.  Just make sure your stitches are nice and solid, not too tight or too loose, and you'll end up with a splendid Peeg!

Abbreviations
ch-chain
st-stitch
ea-each
PRM-place row marker.  This will mark the end of the last row you were working on.  When you finish each row, your last stitch or stitches should go through the st with the marker in it.
sc-single crochet
sl-slip stitch
dec-decrease
(# st)-the number of stitches you should have at the end of each row.
If you need help learning any of these terms, enter them into google or youtube for a plethora of how to's!

Body
R1-ch 2, 4 sc in first st to create a ring.  Pull the ring tightly closed (4 st).
R2-2 sc in each st around (8 st).  PRM
R3-(1 sc in next st, 2 sc in next st) around (12 st).  PRM
R4-(1 sc in next 2 st, 2 sc in next st) around (16 st).  PRM
R5-(1 s in next 3 st, 2 sc in next st) 3 times (15 st).  1 sc in next 3 st (18 st).  PRM
R6-1 sc in ea st around (18 st).  PRM
R7-1 sc in ea st around (18 st).  PRM

At this point you will have a little crocheted "bowl".  The natural curve has created an "inside" and an "outside".  The "outside" is the traditional amigurumi look, but you can invert your "bowl" if you like the way the inside stitches look better and want them on the outside.  I find I vary depending on my project, but my I usually invert my bowl here for Peegs.  Decide how you like it (you don't need to change how you crochet, just keep going along as normal) and attach your face.  Doing it now is much easier as you will have more room to access the inside of your ami's head.
Cut a circle out of felt and embroider two little lines or circles for the nostrils.  Sew it to the end of your bowl.  Place your eyes where you would like them.  I like to place my eyes at level or lower than the nostrils for a cute look, but whatever works for you is fine.  Find your Peegs personality!
Once your Peeg has a face, continue to crochet

R8-12-1 sc in ea st around for the next 5 rows (18 st per row).  PRM
R13-(1 sc in next 3 st, dec in next st) 3 times.  1 sc in next 3 st (15 st).  PRM
R14-(1 sc in next 2 st, dec in next st) 3 times.  1 sc in next st, dec in next st (11 st).  PRM
Begin to stuff your Peeg with the polyester fiberfill.
R15-dec in ea st around, sl in last st (6 st).  PRM
Finish stuffing your Peeg.
R16-dec in next 2 st.  Remove row marker.  Skip next st.  Sl st in next st.  This should close your Peeg.  From there, ch 7.  Sc in 2nd st from hook and sc in each st along until you end up back at the base of the tail (6 st).  Sl st into any st at base of tail.  Cut yarn, pull though, and weave in end using the yarn needle.

Ears
-holding your Peeg facing you, find the middle point at the top of its head, above the nose and between the eyes.  Once you have found that "middle stitch", place the row marker there.
-insert the crochet hook 2 st to the left of the middle stitch, loop yarn over, and pull though.
-sc in next 2 st on the Peeg's head, moving down towards the eye.
-turn the Peeg so it is now facing away from you.  Sc in each of the 2 st you just made.
-turn the Peeg so it is now facing towards you.  Sk first st and sc in next st.
-cut yarn and pull through.  You should now have a triangle shape.
-thread the yarn in the yarn needle and insert the needle into the middle of the triangle so that the ear now folds over.  Weave in ends.  You have now finished the Peeg's right ear.
-repeat process for the left ear, except start with the Peeg facing away from you.

Legs (they are very small so you probably won't need the row marker)
R1-ch 2, 2 sc in first st to make a ring.  Pull the ring tightly closed.
R2-2 sc in first st, 1 sc in next st (3 st).
R3-1 sc in ea st around (3 st).
Make four and sew them onto the bottom of the Peeg using your yarn needle.  Weave in ends.
Attach buttons, ribbons, plastic gems, or any other decoration you want to make yourself the perfect Peeg!  Try different colour or yarn types for different results, and don't be afraid to experiment.  Good luck with your Peegs, Super Cuties!!!

Please note:  I provide this pattern free of charge so people at home can make their very own Peegs.  It is property of Sakura Bean Super Cute Crochet.  Please do not replicate or sell it.  If you choose to sell the Peegs you create, please do the right thing and let the customer know where you got the pattern via my blog or Facebook page.  Thank you!!!

Or, if you're too lazy/have the dexterity of a drunken baboon (and I say that with love), check out my Etsy shop for pre-made Peegs!

Angel Hamsters and Angel Peegs

Sorry for my absence of late, Super Cuties.  I've been quite busy (not playing video games, I promise) and a lot has happened.  I've been preparing for my trip, and working a lot, and unfortunately my hamster died.  I can honestly tell you, I'm 24 years old, nearly 25, and I cried like a little girl for two days and am still upset.  It was quite unexpected, she was only a year and a half.  She jumped from my hands as I was putting her back in her cage and fell, I guess hurting something internally.  She seemed fine at first but when I went to check on her the next night she was clearly in pain and it ended soon after that.  Her name was Miso and she was so cute...she used to like eating berry treats and running around in her little hamster ball, wiggling her ham-butt.  It seems so silly but she was my pet and I loved her, I think anything you love, from a goldfish to a horse, if it leaves you there is definitely a palatable emptiness.  However, I am thinking of Miso as she was in her happy life and knowing that her Super Cute little soul is at the Rainbow Bridge and she is happy n_n

In her memory, I made an angel delight little Teaspoon Peeg who is tiny and wee and super adorbz!

Hey!  How come this teaspoon doesn't have any cake or pie or ice cream on it?  What kind of second rate photo shoot IS THIS!?
My official pattern for Peegs is almost done, and there is another new cutie in my inventory; a little bear who likes to hide in itty-bitty flower pots!

I wish I could live in a flower pot.  Cheaper rent for sure.
It's not even August and I've made myself a fall hat.  I'll have to get some of those up and running and in my shop soon too.  I want it to get chilly so I can wear it...but I want the rest of summer to be nice and warm.  WHY IS IT SO HARD!?

Sorry, I clearly need to calm dow-MY HAT IS SO CUUUUTE BUT IT'S SO WARM BUT I WANT IT TO STAY WARM AND I CAN'T WEAR MY HAT ON THE CRUISE BUT IT'S.  SO.  CUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUTE!!!

Teaspoon Peeglets!

They're cute and they know it.  I'd let them get away with anything!  Even SHENANIGANS!
Teaspoon Peeglets are a great success!  They are inspired by yummy ice cream (are we noticing a theme in my work?) and can fit into a teaspoon.  Vanilla, well, she is a classic favourite!  Sweet and cool and perfect for summer.  Now, Banana is an adventurous, fun loving gal who loves jokes and laughing!  I've always thought of bananas as being a bit goofy n_n.  Mint is calm, laid back, ready to just chill and enjoy hot summer days in the shade.  Sounds good to me!  Keep an eye open for even more cute colours and themed peegs over in my shop!

Yesterday I went to the Calgary Stampede, with my best friend Kari and it was great!  We went on the Zipper, I forgot how queasy it can make a person!  The cheesy haunted house was actually the stuff of nightmares, and I gibbered like a madman was quite delighted by the baby farm animals.  Oh, and I won an awesome dragon named Chester!

He is my greatest accomplishment to date.  No lie.

The leopard found a new home with a Super Cute little girl who didn't have any prizes yet.  It's all part of what I call my "Stampede Good Deed" (< clever rhyming slogan copyright of ME!)  I enjoy playing the carnival games but when I win something smaller or not as awesome as Chester, I like to find a nice, polite, small child who hasn't won anything yet and give them the toy.  Kari passed along her little pink gorilla to a thrilled toddler, and I gave the leopard to this adorable little girl who's mom was super happy for her...except I didn't realize this woman had TWO little girls (I didn't see the other one at first) so I gave her my giraffe that I had won.  It was the same size as this leopard but was actually totally amazing and cute and I love giraffes but what was I going to do?  "NO, PICK WHICH OF YOUR CHILDREN YOU LOVE MORE!  NO TOY FOR YOU, OTHER CHILD!"  Although that would have been hilarious.  Wrong, but hilarious.

The Stampede is great, but I ate a lot of crap ie junk food and then today, I ate a lot of junk food again, and the scale is not happy with me.  I'm going on a cruise at the end of the summer and need to get back on track, so wish me luck Super Cuties!  I can so do this!  I just need to be strong in the face of deliciousness.  Such...delicious...deliciousness...

As promised, a pattern for peegs and changes to this blog will be coming, but I just got a new computer and I'm still figuring it all out.  So please bear with me and thanks for your patience!  YOU'RE AWESOME!  But not as awesome as Chester.  Sorry.

Adventures in Pottery Painting

My mom's birthday was on the 2nd, and we celebrated on July 1st, which is also Canada Day!

AWWW YEAH!  FLAG!!!!
My sister and I took her pottery painting, and we had a hell of a time trying to convince her that even though the colours look different in paint form, they will show up the same as how they look on the display panel.  At one point, after she said for the millionth time that she didn't think the colours were right, I told her they WERE and I was going to throw HER in the kiln if she wasn't careful!  HAPPY BIRTHDAY, STOP YOUR DAMN QUESTIONS!!!
In all honesty it was a lot of fun and I am excited to see how her creation turned out, and my sister's little vase that was supposed to be a sunset but ended up a scene of cactus, and to use my new rice bowl I made, complete with built-in chopstick rest!

I think I suffer from seasonal dyslexia or something.  All winter long, after I finish ice fishing and caribou hunting and other Canadian activities, I think of how much I want it to be summer!  Conversely, in the summer I get all romantic about the beauty of fall and winter and all the lovely holidays in that part of the year.  And with my latest order of plain eyes from yeahshop I received a free gift of two pairs of little red-ringed eyes.  It got me thinking of cute (and a bit scary) amis for Hallowe'en, and I couldn't wait to make them!  So now...at the beginning of July, please meet...

Tiny Super Cute Bat Peeg
BAT PEEG
...and...

Tiny Super Cute Zombie Peeg
ZOMBIE PEEG!!!
Even though they are Hallowe'en themed, I think they would be great anytime for anyone who likes zombies.  Or bats.  Or peegs, for that matter!  I'm going to have to get more of those eyes, I think.

That's all for tonight, Cuties!  Tomorrow...or...well...later today, I suppose, the owls will be flying (GET IT!?  Oh please say you did...) out to California to be part of Memo's Mind's giveaway, so be sure to check them out too if you get a chance!

Later, Cuties!!! xoxoxox

Sunday 1 July 2012

Harry Potter Owls!!!

Ravenclaw (barn), Hufflepuff (screech), Gryffindor (snowy) and Slytherin (great-horned).

Making these owls for Memo's Mind really made me want to go back to Harry Potter World in Orlando.  That was amazing!!!  If you haven't been, I suggest you go, it's so magical!

No, legit, magic.  It really was Hogwarts.  AND when we went to Disney World I met Sleeping Beauty in REAL LIFE.  She is REAL and that film is a DOCUMENTARY.

...just let me dream.

It's Canada Day, so a very awesome day to all my fellow Canadians who will hopefully get a chance today to soak up some sun and have a good time!  I have plans so I'd better scurry off to bed, but have a Super Cute Canada Day!!!

Quick post before sleepy time...

I'm having an "early" night (2:43 am) but I did just want to say you can now find my facebook page through it's new username!

www.facebook.com/sakurabean

Hope that will make it easier to find me!

Also, in the next few weeks I will be making this blog more organized and customized towards my actual products.  There will be a blog section, a shop section, a tutorial section, and maybe just some other sections filled with cute cutey cuteness!

Okay I seriously need to go to bed...

So Many Granny Squares O_O

I had the urge to crochet an afghan.

I am regretting my decision.

Not because I don't like afghans (granny squares are awesome!) but I sort of forgot how many I'm going to need...so far I have 10.  Out of 25.  Or, if I can keep my enthusiasm mustered, 36.  And I only regret the decision because I want to work on it and get it done as quickly as possible, but I want to do a good job, but I can't work on it and do the plethora of other things I'm always working on, and it's given me another distraction from doing things I don't want to do like laundry or cleaning and making me forget about things I do need like sleep and sunlight AND THERE ARE JUST SO MANY SQUARES OH GOD WHY DID I DO THIS TO MYSELF?!!?!?!?!

On the plus side, I'll get a cozy cute blanket out of it that will look considerably better than the last/only blanket I ever completed.  Hopefully.

In amigurumi news, a recent purchaser received her pink unicorn and was pleased, so I was glad of that!  Another customer bought this gift for a birthday present and that was successful too!  Although, honestly, who doesn't love owls?
"O v O"

This little owl enjoys the matching ribbon!!!
There will be more owlishness in a few days, after I complete my latest custom order...owls with Harry Potter themes!!!  Oh it fills me with nerdy joy!

And on that note, I will return to my nightmarish feat of making seemingly endless (but awesome) granny squares.  My fingers will be bloody stumps by the time I'm done, and my mind will be mush, but it will be the best blood and brain liquid-stained afghan ever!!!

No, Peeg! My dessert! MINE!

Making Peegs is fun, but they have cheeky natures and are always hungry!

"...you gunna...you gunna eat that?"
"BACK OFF, PEEG!"
The copious amount of whipped cream is Kevin's fault.  Yes.  Kevin.  <_<

That sweet lil' oinker trying to steal my tasty dessert is a stripey Vanilla Cookie Dough Peeg.  That is my second favourite kind of ice cream.  The first, you ask?

BEHOLD!  Your Mint Chocolate Chip Peeg Overlord!
I also love Tiger Tail, but I don't have the right materials to make her right now.  I guess there are lots of awesome ice cream flavours, but those three are the best...albeit not in the same bowl...

While those three are chilling (get it?!  Because of ice cream?  Oh, but I'm witty!) over on my Etsy shop, I am figuring out an actual pattern for the Peegs and hoping to have something on my site by July.  In the mean time, if you are wanting a really good introductory crochet how-to, I recommend the following videos and sites!

All Free Crochet for free patterns and tutorials.  It's a good idea to have a few granny squares/slightly hole-ey scarves under your belt at the very beginning.  Simple single crochet scarves are great to practice the "moves" of crochet.  Once you know how to hold the hook, the yarn, and make stitches with confidence, crocheting amis is quite easy!
Naztazia does a very good instructional video for All Free Crochet.  It's easy to follow and for very, very, very beginners!
Red Heart is, of course, a well-known yarn brand and has a lot of great content.  Plus, you can do a knitting tutorials as well!  (BOOOOO!!!  KNITTING!!!  KNITTING!!! BOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!  Sorry, but the divide runs deep!)

So get those hooks out at get practicing, and soon you'll be whipping up amis in no time!  I'll make my Peeg pattern and hopefully by the end of the summer you'll have some of your very own Peegs sneaking into your kitchen and stealing your strawberries...

Stay Cute!!!!

p.s. I claim no rights to the previous links, and am merely providing them as tools for any of my viewers.  I did not make them or own any material they contain within.  I hope that sounds official enough!

Miserable Weather, Adorable Amis!

Just over a week ago was my boyfriend's birthday, and Thor must have been super excited because it rained buckets (flat parking lots were several inches deep in water) and there was a ton of thunder and lightning.
"HAPPY BIRTHDAY KEVIN!"
"Thank you oh god please stop..."
Ever since, it's been raining and/or hailing here in Calgary.  Actually, we had one nice day, but the others have been pretty wet.  Some more thunder and lightning too.  I like storms as much as the next girl, but I hope it gets sunny and stays sunny soon, I want to plant my balcony flower pots and work on my flip flop tan.

However, all the crummy weather has given me time to get some crochet work done around here!  I finished the piece for the winner of my contest, Imma Blac Shepe aka Jessica, and will be sending it out tomorrow.  A version will be available in my shop soon too ^_^

An ice cream hippo and his cone home!

Gotta admit...that is a pretty good hiding spot.  I mean, my ice cream cone is the LAST place I would think to find a hippo.   Giraffes, yes.  Hippos, no.
This is a cute way to keep a hippo as a pet!  They may be cute, but real hippos are dangerous wild animals and I'm pretty sure they don't like ice cream...or dairy treats of any kind.

If you want something super sweet, though, you really can't beat cotton candy!  I love the way it is super fluffy and almost huggable, and how it melts in your mouth, and holding a stick of pluffy goodness with friends tearing off big chunks and laughing together.  Can't wait to do that at the Calgary Stampede* this year!  And I found this yarn and thought it was perfect for a cotton candy unicorn!

The paper sticks they use always looked like horns to me!

Even though all the colours taste the same, it can be hard to pick!  Surely the bane of my parents existence when I was a child..."....um...yello-NO!  Blue!....no wait, pink plea-" "JUST PICK ONE!"

I have a commission due by the end of next week, so I'll be working on that.  In the mean time, I will attach some links to free "how to crochet" sites, so you can master the basic step, and so that I can come up with me official peeg pattern to share with you!  So stay tuned for that starting in July!

Have a sweet, ice creamy, cotton candy day!

*I wonder if it's possible to crochet a deep-fried Oreo cookie?  Another popular...um..."food" of the Stampede...

Tuesday 5 June 2012

Pink Hippo Ice Cream Cones!!!

The winner of my Facebook contest is Imma Blac Shepe (cute name!) with her winning idea, Pink Hippo Ice Cream Cones!
"I get to be ice cream!!!"
Their will also be a version of this item available in my shop within a week, so keep your eyes peeled n_n

And the Hippie Bunny is off to his new home in Toronto tomorrow...bye Hippie Bunny, we'll miss you.  Also, GET A JOB!  (Just kidding!)

And, of course, a very happy birthday to my love, Kevin...even though he's super stinksauce...

Contests and Prizes!

Want to win an awesome amigurumi!?  Wanna try your luck at awesome prizes?!

I feel like a casino owner!!!  Except without billions of dollars...or swag :(
Then you'll want to head over to Memo's Mind on Facebook, as she purchased an item from me and is using it in part of a giveaway over on her site!  Which is cool, if all goes well more of my items will be featured there, it's a pretty neat site, I'm excited about working with her!!!  So there is chance number one!

Chance number two, head over to my site and enter my awesome contest!  The rules are simple...send me, in a private Facebook message, your favourite dessert (real or imagined!) and I will pick one and make a dessert-inspired amigurumi from it!  One to be sent to you, and one to be made and sold in my Etsy store.  You will receive a credit for your input, and if you have your own Etsy shop and/or facebook page a link will be given as well.

So, Super Cuties, good luck, and the winner of my contest will be announced June 5th!

Sigh...I wish I had casino swag...

Magician's Mayhem!

For all you fantasy lovers out there, my talented friend has written and self-published a novel, and I did the cover art!  It's an awesome story for tween to teens (although I'm an adult and I loved it!), I hope you check it out on smashwords (good for if you don't have a Kindle or other e-reader) and amazon.  The book follows Tobin, a young man who leads-well...led-a quiet life as he encounters magic and mystery!  This is just book one, I am excited to do the cover art for the next books in the series, and to read them of course!

Thanks for reading, Super Cuties!

Saturday 26 May 2012

Summer. So close.

I'm excited for summer, because it means cherries and watermelons are in season, and are therefore cheaper!  And, since I'm home all summer long this year, I will have time to sit on my balcony, eating cherries and watermelon and drinking...tea.   Yes.

"Tea."

What with the weather finally improving, there is a lot of inspiration for me to crochet!  From fresh fruit...
Oranges are pretty tasty n_n
...to magical princesses...
Peegy is best princess!

...to chocolate pandas with red roses!

Chocolate, anyone?
And, if you swing on over to my Facebook page, you can enter a contest at the end of May that might win you a cute summer-inspired ami of your own!  Who can resist!?!?!?

That's all from me tonight, Super Cuties, I am going to take a break and go and enjoy some...ahem............"tea".

Is this...is this a Diablo?

About two weeks ago I did my first ever window painting for my friend, who works at EB Games and the store wanted something for the midnight release.  The game Diablo III came out, and although I have NO clue what the game is even about, I did the window art!  It's a late update, but here, finally, is the photo!  As...shudder..."instagramed" by Kevin.

WHERE IS YOUR GOD NOW?!
Of course, as I was doing it, people were coming in the store and asking when the game was coming out.  Even though I had painted it.  In bright yellow.  On the window.  Next to the door.  -_-

It's something I want to do more of, and there will be more game releases I can do for the store.  I know, I know, it's not crochet but it's my craft and it was really fun!!!  Maybe one day, when I have my own crochet shop (a nerdy dream of mine) I will have cute amis painted in the window!!! <3  If you want to do your own window painting, it's super easy.  Draw your image on the outside of the glass with a whiteboard marker.  Then on the inside, using ACRYLIC paint (some websites say to use tempera, we tried this, it does NOT work) paint your image.  But don't forget, you have to do whatever is in the foreground first, or you'll be scraping paint and starting over.  To remove it, wash with Lysol or any other household cleaner and use a plastic or metal scraper to take off the paint.  Super fun!  I'm excited to do the Assassin's Creed one, that's one of my favourite games!

As for non-denomic cute crochet, there will be two, possibly three new items ready for viewing tomorrow!  Until then, Super Cuties, stay awesome, try some window painting, and have a great weekend!

Friday 18 May 2012

She is the one named Sailor Moon!!!

Many of my gleeful girlhood hours were spent watching Sailor Moon, playing with Sailor Moon, pretending to BE Sailor Moon, etc etc.  I remember once I was hospitalized for about a week when I was about 8, nothing too major but I was fairly sick, and on the second day I found out my room mate was a Sailor Moon fanatic too.  I made my dad, who had slept in the room with me on a chair and was very tired (and probably worried sick himself), drive all the way home, get every single Sailor Moon thing I owned, and bring it back so me and this girl could play*.  I wasn't very well, but GOD DAMMIT I WAS WITH SOMEONE WHO UNDERSTOOD WHAT IT MEANT TO FIGHT EVIL BY MOONLIGHT AND WIN LOVE BY DAYLIGHT.

Sailor Moon is what attracted me to anime...I had seen anime when I was very small, but didn't know it from any other cartoon.  Sailor Moon was the first thing I was consciously aware of as being this alternate style and I just fell in love with the beauty, and of course, the CUTENESS!!!  A talking cat, adorable outfits, pretty girls, magic wands and love conquering all!  It was all too much cuteness for me to handle!  And so, this weekend, I am honouring that cuteness by turning myself into my childhood dream...Princess Serenity!

This is the only pic I have right now, I will get better ones this weekend of me being wistful...and not...you know...standing in my messy dining area.

The costume only took two days and I think it turned out all things considered.  Had I had infinite time and money, on day one of the convention I would have done regular Serena (I can't use their Japanese names...it feels wrong!) and on day two Sailor Moon, followed by Princess Serenity.  But I figured if I had to do one, this would be it!

And while this isn't crochet, it is a cute craft, ne?!

Have a kawaii weekend, Sailor Cuties!

*thanks Dad :)

Peegs!

Peegs are awesomely easy to crochet.  Seriously.  Crochet a tube.  Add a face and you're done.  I shall make a pattern and post it next week, but for now, here are some new peegy creations!

A "cocka-peeg".  Animal hybrids are so fun to come up with!

*sigh*...seems like everyone I know is engaged...or married....even these two little peegs...*even bigger sigh*
Anywho, I am off until Monday, and as much as I would love to fill my days crocheting my fingers to bloody stumps, I will be sewing my fingers to bloody stumps instead in an attempt to create an Otafest (anime convention) costume by Saturday.  I know, I know, I should have started earlier, but I was super busy with commissions and other things (pictures of which will also be up next week!)  It'll be fine, although I'm starting to wish I had picked an easier costume...

This.  By Saturday.  Crap.

Well it's okay, I've always wanted to be Princess Serenity!  Not too sure about the "serene" part, at this point, though...

Take care, Super Cuties!!!

Pomp and Circumstance

I have just finished a custom order for someone looking for a graduation present, and I don't think it could be cuter if it tried!

I are teh gradumawated!!!
My favourite bit is his little grad cap....so squee!  And CPP are the initials of the school, although I don't know what actual school it is...oh well, I hope he brings a smile to the face of the grad and good luck to them in their future career!

...I am definitely not blogging to stall for time so I don't have to go fold the laundry...

...not at all...

...I don't wanna...

Saturday 5 May 2012

Well, I didn't win millions in Vegas...

Sad face :'(
But what I did do is have a marvelous time!  There were NO scandals of ANY kind....<_<...>_>......And, when my boyfriend got back from HIS trip, I was able to use his camera to get some snap shots of my newest ami creation!

Meet my Banana Cream Pie Bear!  So yummy!

If I could wear a whipped cream dollop for a hat, I would.

So...full...stomach..........asplodin'....
I hope you think he is as cute as I do...I especially like his different coloured bottom.  It's like he's wearing footie pajamas!

Well, I am off for a shower and then it's off to bed, but now that I am back from vacation and have time, there will be lots more cuteness coming your way!  And with any luck...more ice cream!

Mmmmmmmmm...........ice cream...

Sunday 22 April 2012

Full of Shame...

Guilty Cat is Guilty.
I have been a naughty crocheter and have been neglecting my blog terribly!!!  I am so full of shame!!!  There are a few things that have gotten in the way of me crocheting, and blogging, and blogging about crochet.  These things include(d)

-studying for/writing my art history exam (which, btw, I think I did very well on!)
-finishing up my last few classes, and all appropriate projects for said classes
-spending time with friends whom I haven't seen in ages
-attempting to clean my house
-mailing items sold on Etsy
-working
-preparing for my vacation
-working on a very important art commission
-...playing video games but I promise ONLY A LITTLE BIT!!!
Anyway, tomorrow I am off to LAS VEGAS (n_n) but when I get back, I will have nothing to do but work and craft, so there will be lots more up here in Cute Town!  I plan on doing some instructionals, so if you're learning to crochet you'll want to stop by for tips, tricks, and techniques!  If you're just looking for cuteness, there will be feature blog posts on things I find cute, crochet and otherwise, and hopefully you will enjoy those too!

In the mean time, please accept my humblest of apologies, and I assure you, proper cuteness will resume in about a week.  Thanks to any and all of you who swing by my blog, I love you all and wish you the best during the week of my absence!

Have a cute one!  <3

Skinny Pig Madness!!!

Hello, Super Cuties, did you all have a good Easter?  On Easter I went to the zoo with some very tall friends of mine, two of whom are well over 6 feet tall, which made me feel like I was a halfling.

"They're taking the hobbits to the hippo enclosure!"

Speaking of hippos, today, whilst at the pet store picking up dog chews and hammy noms, I quietly pointed out to Kevin that they had "skinny" pigs (via running over to their house yelling AHMAHGAHD SKINNEH PEEGS!!!!).  Skinny pigs, for those of you who don't know, are hairless (or almost hairless) guinea pigs who are pretty much the cutest thing ever.  I don't know what it is about them I like so much, considering hairless cats and dogs freak my right out, but they're just so sweet!  They do look like little hippos!  Here is a picture of one (not the ones I saw today, obviously) and I'll admit they're funny looking but OH GOSH LOOK AT TEH WRINKLES!!!

...dem wrinkles...O.O
I held one and he was just ohmygoodness I can't even holycowIwantone...

...what?

...you want me to talk about crochet?

...ugh, fine.

JUST KIDDING, I am happy to talk about crochet since that is why you are here.  There are five-yes, count 'em, FIVE-new items up in my Etsy shop, I have been feeling pretty industrious of late!  First, we have these adorable meranimals!  My favourite part is the little flower gems!  Let's face it, a mermaid wouldn't wear a bikini top, she would use things naturally found in the sea, like aquatic plants and shells and stuff!

Besides, human mermaids are BORING, let's get some bunnies, bears and kitties in there!
Then we have the newest additions to my Little Jar Bear collection, a night time blue bear who's a real star-gazer, and a shy and quiet girly-girl lilac and grey bear who loves pink and purple!

So then, Super Cuties, I hope that's enough cuteness to satisfy you for today!  I definitely had my cuteness fill (SKINNEH PEEGS!!!) and am going to go and think of something else cute and cuddly to create!

Have a great one, Super Cuties!

YOU GUYS!!! GUYS!!! GUYS, YOU GUYS!!!

YOU GUYS!!!

Go and check out Thingor!  I did those spring time amis for their promotion which is going on in Calgary this weekend, and it looks like a pretty cool website!  I am happy to be a part of it, even if it is in a small way.  Plus, I got to meet one of the guys who runs it AND discovered an awesomely cute little tea-house (even if it is in Kensington) called the Oolong Tea House, which I totally made a thing for on Thingor!!!

Also, it has been duly noted that I talk a helluva lot, and I apologize to Craig and thank him for listening to me blather on and let me show him photos of my dog.

WANNA SEE A PHOTO OF MY DOG?!

YOU CANNOT RESIST THE DERP!!!
So have a good Saturday, and enjoy the long weekend!  And if you're in downtown Calgary or Kensington, and the weather isn't crap terribly unpleasant, perhaps you will have some awesome Thingor things bestowed upon you!  How cute!!!

I know that feel, bro...

...I know that feel.
Just under three weeks until Las Vegas with my girlfriends...I just have to get through the rest of the semester with my brain and most of my internal organs intact...then it's party time!  It's the last part of the school year that tends to drag on, and I start to resemble this here bear, so wish me luck!

But of course, no matter what is going on in my life, there is always cuteness in the form of crochet to be found!  Some items I sold on Etsy are on their way to new homes tomorrow, and I'm handing off the stuff for the local Calgary promotion as well.  I can't believe Easter is practically here already!  Can you, Super Cuties?  Guess I'm not the only one who is tired!!!

Even my new creation is tired!  Wake up, little ami!

Little bear, big cutenessocity!
This adora-bear is quite classic and simple in his design.  Wouldn't he look quaint in a cottage?  I think his sweater is cute as-is, but I couldn't help adding a gem, it's a nice little trademark.  Plus I have a tub full o' gems and I like shiny things.  I find my style is tending towards a more classic look at the moment, and I like it, but the best part about a style is that it can change and be influenced all the time.  I hope people will recognize anything I do as mine, but I'm not afraid to try new things or different techniques.  In amigurumi, there are no limitations except the ones you put on yourself, so if you're creating crocheted cuties, or any other piece of art, experiment and discover!  You never know what cutie-pie you might end up with!

Stay awesome, Cuties!

You know what's NOT cute?!

My downstairs neighbours think they're quite the party animals, and were having a shindig.  Which started at three in the morning.  And involved yelling.  And pot smoking.  And urinating on the lawn, even though he had just left my neighbour's apartment (which is on the ground level and opens out onto the lawn) and could have gone back in for five seconds.  And more yelling, specifically one guy being abusive and rude to one girl.  The vibrations from the music were thumping my floors, while the people were OUTSIDE on the balcony, not even listening to it.  At least this time it wasn't Adele (I don't really like her at the best of times, but especially not when I'm trying to sleep) but that has happened before.  Needless to say, I was not impressed.

My grumpy face.  Behold it.
People, I hardly need to tell you this-my Super Cuties are perfect!-but don't be that person.  3 o' clock in the morning, even if it's a weekend?  Keep it down.  Sitting on the bus?  I don't want to hear your obscenely loud (not to mention awful) music blasting through your headphones.  Oh, you went ahead of me going through a door?  I sure do appreciate you not dropping it in my face.  Or, if I held the door for you, a thank you is all I ask.  Because everyone HATES that person, and you can tell when you meet someone who is really really REALLY rude (a certain customer at my work comes to mind!) and thinks that it's everyone else's problem.  They fail to recognize that they are the common denominator.  They treat you like dirt and wonder why their lives are so full of anger and bitterness.  It's because they are receiving what they give.
Because here's the thing, Super Cuties...MANNERS ARE AWESOME.  They really are.  I remember my parents, my dad in particular, hounding me incessantly about manners.  And I'm glad they did.  I try my best to be polite to everyone, because you can fault me on a lot of things, but I always say please and thank you.  I'm not saying you have to put up with crap with a big smile on your face...stand your ground.  But people will take you seriously if they realize that you are making a conscious effort to be nice to them, to make them feel like a person by taking their feelings into account.  Which is what manners do.  By covering your mouth when you cough you're saying "I didn't want to get you sick today!"  By saying sorry when you bump into someone you're saying "That was an accident, I didn't mean to get in your way!"  And they won't always reciprocate.  And they won't always even deserve for you to be nice to them.  But you have to treat others the way you want to be treated, and trust that one day, karma will turn back around and repay you.
Maybe I haven't articulated this very well, and I know this is my crochet blog, but I'm tired yet needed to rant.  So do it.  Do it for manners. Do it for good grace.  Do it for that hilariously annoyed-looking cat.
Do it for the cuteness.

Good news! I'm not dead!

My sister is studying to become a nurse, and needed to use me as a guinea pig to practice taking people's blood pressure.  We have an agreement that I will let her practice things on me, as long as she doesn't graft on any animal parts.  Unless it's a prehensile tail.  That would be awesome.
However, she was trying to find my pulse in my arm, and really really REALLY couldn't find it.  She shot me a look.  A look that says "...you might be dead, actually."  But eventually she found it, causing me to breathe a sigh of relief, because I was going to be very annoyed if it turned out I had been dead this whole time.
Also, halfway through her taking my blood pressure (which was in the good range, just below the ideal, making me "sub-optimal"...story of my life) she walked away to go check on the muffins that were baking.  That is either awful or wonderful nursing.  I guess it depends on the type of muffin?

Chocolate chip?  AHMAHGAHD YOU'RE THE BEST NURSE EVER!!!
Ew no wait gross they were bran WORST MUFFIN EVER I HATE YOUUUUU!!!

So, to celebrate the fact that I do have measurable, if sub-optimal, blood pressure, I made two cute little amis who live in sweet little mason jars!  I hope people like them, they can be customized!  I think they'd be a cute wedding or baby shower favour, don't you?  Or, you know, just because!  We can never have too much cute!

See, told you.

Oh!  And!  AND!  I went to see Danny Bhoy last night, he was sooooo funny!  If you ever get a chance to see him, do it.  He is hilarious, and a cutie to boot!  Also, he just seems like a really cool and nice guy!  I might have to celebrity stalk him....<_<.....>_>......

Have a great day, Super Cuties, especially my step-mom, who just had her birthday...well...okay I guess since it's past midnight it was yesterday but oh well, happy birthday!!!
